Old Road to Pianazzo with snow
The walk leads from Madesimo to the hamlet of Pianazzo (1400 meters above sea level) along the old road, now exclusively reserved for pedestrians and fat bikes (i.e., bikes designed for snow-covered roads). Along the route, you can admire two waterfalls, both fed by the Scalcoggia stream: the Catino Waterfall, named after the shape of the rock sculpted by water erosion (a “catino” is a basin in Italian), and the Pianazzo Waterfall, which, with its 180-meter drop, is the tallest in the Valle Spluga. The viewpoint over the waterfall, the endpoint of the walk, is particularly captivating.
